Autumn in South Tyrol.

The best activities between mountains, culinary delights and relaxation.

21.09.2026 – from Lea Obexer

When the forests turn golden, the crisp morning air drifts through the valley and the sun bathes the peaks in warm light, South Tyrol reveals one of its most atmospheric sides to me. Autumn is the perfect time to combine nature, culinary delights and relaxation. A wealth of experiences awaits me around Brixen and the Plose – from scenic hikes and traditional flavours to soothing hours in the spa.

Hiking in the crisp autumn air.

Pleasant temperatures and far-reaching views make autumn the perfect season for hiking. Numerous trails on the Plose lead through light-filled forests and across sunny plateaus. Along the way, spectacular views of the Dolomites and the Eisack Valley unfold before me.

Depending on my mood and fitness level, I can choose between leisurely panoramic trails and more challenging mountain tours. Stopping at a traditional mountain hut is especially appealing at this time of year: after a day in nature, South Tyrolean specialities taste even better on a sunny terrace.

Experiencing the South Tyrolean tradition of Törggelen.

For me, autumn in South Tyrol is inseparably linked with Törggelen. What began as a shared tasting of the young wine after the grape harvest is now one of the region’s most cherished traditions. In rustic farmhouse inns, I enjoy seasonal dishes such as Schlutzkrapfen, dumplings, sauerkraut and a hearty meat platter. Roasted chestnuts and sweet Krapfen provide the perfect finale.

I experience Törggelen at its most authentic in the wine villages around Brixen, Vahrn and Neustift. Surrounded by vineyards, old farmhouses and cosy wood-panelled rooms, I gain a delightful insight into the South Tyrolean way of life.

Exploring Brixen’s Old Town.

On cooler days, I am drawn to Brixen. The oldest town in Tyrol invites me to linger beneath its arcades, browse its small shops and relax in its cosy cafés. I visit Brixen Cathedral, the cloister and the Hofburg, or combine a leisurely stroll through the old town with a visit to the market and an aperitif.

I find Brixen particularly peaceful and inviting in autumn. The warm light, historic façades and surrounding vineyards lend the town a unique atmosphere.

Warmth and wellness after a day in nature.

After breathing in the fresh mountain air and gathering so many new impressions, few things feel better than soothing warmth. In the My Arbor wellness area, I savour autumn mindfully – swimming with a view of the forest, enjoying a sauna or unwinding with a relaxing treatment.

As the leaves fall outside, I find space indoors to let go. It is precisely this balance between activity and tranquillity that makes my autumn stay at My Arbor so special.

Whether I spend active hours on the Plose, enjoy a traditional Törggelen evening, explore Brixen or relax for a day in the spa, autumn in My Arbor offers me countless ways to experience the region authentically. Nature grows quieter. The colours become richer. And I experience each moment more consciously.

Discovering vineyards and wineries.

After the grape harvest, tranquillity slowly returns to the vineyards – yet there is still so much for me to discover. During a visit to a winery or wine estate, I learn more about the local grape varieties, the distinctive characteristics of the growing regions and the art of producing South Tyrolean wines.

I especially enjoy combining a wine tasting with a visit to Neustift Abbey. Its historic buildings, surrounding vineyards and centuries-old winemaking tradition make it a truly special autumn destination.
